Professor Toshihiko Yamasaki of the Department of Information and Communication Engineering commented as follows:

I am deeply honored to receive the FY2026 Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Science and Technology Award, Research Category).

To realize the trustworthy and secure use of AI, I have been conducting research on deepfake detection and adversarial robustness, aiming to establish foundational technologies that support the reliability of AI systems. In particular, I am very pleased that this research was recognized for establishing highly accurate and versatile methods for deepfake detection, as well as for developing mathematical models for adversarial robustness, thereby providing a theoretical foundation for a field that had previously relied heavily on empirical approaches.

Going forward, I will continue to promote the integration of theory and implementation in order to advance trustworthy and sustainable AI systems for society, while working toward the establishment of design principles for AI systems that remain robust against emerging threats. Through the dissemination and social implementation of our research, I also hope to continue contributing to the development of research infrastructure that connects academia and society.
