Gender Equality Committee
Mission
We consider activities related to gender equality to be a collective effort involving all members of the Graduate School. Our aim is to realize diverse ways of working and learning that are not constrained by individual attributes, and to help the University continue to develop as a better place for research and scholarship.
The COVID-19 pandemic revealed a range of challenges, while also highlighting the importance of information science and technology in addressing them. For example, university lectures, research supervision, and participation in meetings can now be carried out more easily from home using online systems. Such changes can reduce the burden on faculty members and students with responsibilities such as childcare or caregiving, thereby contributing to greater diversity.
Promoting diversity also helps secure talented people and foster innovation. Since the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology does not have an undergraduate faculty, it has not independently organized outreach activities for junior and senior high school students. Instead, it has actively contributed to initiatives such as open campus events organized by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering.
Going forward, taking into account the growing importance of information education in primary and secondary education, we aim to further enhance our outreach activities by actively collaborating with other faculties and graduate schools that have extensive experience in gender equality initiatives.
