History

The Graduate School of Information Science and Technology (IST) began in April 2001 with five departments: Computer Science, Mathematical Informatics, Information Physics and Computing, Information and Communication Engineering, and Mechano-Informatics. In April of 2005, the Department of Creative Informatics was established, and further developments are planned.
Since its beginnings, the IST has worked to promote research and education that will advance technology, open new paths to the future, and raise the bar for the standard of scientific and technological knowledge. Now more than ever, information science technology is vital to our global society; it helps ensure convenience and safety, but also provides us with opportunities for further development.
We aim to seize these opportunities across a wide range of fields.
